Chapter 1.8
“Roy, I was just going to the Marseryn tavern to look up Gwrtheyrn Sarurn.”
“You have some,” and here he glanced askance at Massoud with a questioning look on his face, “Delicate work for him to do?”
“I thought so,” he continued. “You see Akane just met me in the alley with six very large, ‘friends,’ armed to the teeth. Fortunately I managed to elude her but I’m wondering now, I’m wondering why I should try to talk to someone who just tried to have me killed?” Massoud glanced pointedly at Roy as they walked towards the Olieant.
Roy thought about this for a moment before responding. He shook his head. “I don’t know Massoud. Let me reach out to my friend and have him inquire. There is more afoot here than meets the eye, you can trust me on this one. I urge you not to act too quickly just yet.’
Massoud looked at him, studying him, and again judged his initial assessment of Roy to be correct. This man was definitely an asset and one that he was pleased to have included in his plans. “Do so, and get back to me by tomorrow evening with word. I must act quickly on this one, I’m sure you understand.”
“Of course,” Roy replied graciously, “Why don’t you let me have you watched. My men are very discrete?”
Massoud smiled, “First lets have a drink or two and talk. I have a meeting later tonight and I would enjoy your company.” He let this drop just as a hint at something more. He was rewarded by Roy raising his eyebrows slightly. He had not yet decided how deeply he would involve Roy in his plans. The meeting tonight was an important one. Roy could remain a bit player or he could have a larger part. Massoud decided he would audition him for the larger part at the tavern over drinks.
They walked into the Olieant and Roy waved at he bartender who shouted something back. Roy put his arm on Massoud’s shoulder and gently steered him to one of the private rooms in back.
