Chapter 1.9
They moved into a room just barely large enough to hold the four chairs and table inside. The door slid rather than swingin on hinges and Roy pulled this to after they had entered. Likely one of the many rooms used for illegal gambling here in the city, thought Massoud.
Roy sat next to Massoud, both facing the door they had just entered. He pointed up and spoke in a low voice, “vents above keep the room from getting too hot in the summertime. They are closed up right now but still if one speaks too loudly there is no telling who might be listening.”
Massoud nodded his understanding and began the first part of their conversation in Guild Sign. Roy was not a member of the Guild and Massoud was quite sure that they would both be killed if a Guild Elder found out, but some instinct made him do this. Massoud had ignored his instincts once and had a wicked scar from navel to armpit to remind him what happened when he did that.
They had gone as far as they could in sign when Roy asked, “Yes, but Llyr is unaware of the real target, correct?”
“As are you.”
“What do you mean?”
“Think man. You know who is to be killed and you know who will fall because of that murder coupled with your work. But who is left exposed when the storm passes?”
Roy thought a moment and then thumped himself in the forehead, “Of course. How could I have been so thick-witted?”
Massoud smiled kindly. He did like this one. Much undeveloped potential here. “Not to worry my, friend. As in our chess games you are learning to look farther and farther ahead at consequences and more importantly, opportunities.”
“So what is our plan for the third?”
“Our plan?”
