Chapter 3.3

Duilach had waiting for close to an hour for his mark to leave.  He now walked silently down the cobblestone street sticking to the deep shadows.  He was taking his time because the man he was trailing was doing so.  He could tell his mark wasn’t drunk, if only by the way he walked.  Too, he had been trailing this one for long enough to know that he was rarely out of control.  No, he was waiting for a moment when the two were alone.  True he could have taken him out even in a crowd and not been noticed but that wasn’t the orders.  This one, even more so than the other was to be made an example of and for that he would need more than a moment or two.

The two were entering the few streets where Duilach thought it likely he would have the chance get this job done with.  It was therefore more than a little vexing that two women came up to the man and started walking with him.  He didn’t break stride so it seemed obvious that he knew them, or at the very least was not at all concerned about their intentions.  The three walked leisurely through the darkest section of town, unconcerned for their safety.

He briefly considered taking all three out.  He knew it would be a bit risky to do so in silence, but he had confidence he could manage.  The chance of something going wrong though was more than he cared to deal with, so he kept trailing at a distance, hoping for opportunity.  Tonight, or tomorrow, or the next day though, it really didn’t matter when it happened, as long as it took place some day this week.  Those were his orders.

They were now too close to the market to contemplate any action so he resigned himself to picking up the trail another time.  He had just relaxed, starting to break off when he saw someone come up towards him.

“Hey!”

One Response to “Chapter 3.3”

  1. This sounds like it will be a very interesting novel, once finished. I am working on a similar project and would love to hear what you think (mine’s a romance novel…) http://kirstenwright.wordpress.com/
